Telxius and Nokia are collaborating to deploy 800G coherent pluggable optics, which are high-speed optical modules that can send up to 800 gigabits of data per second over fibre, across Telxius’ terrestrial transport networks in Europe, the United States and Latin America. The deployment is in response to growing customer demand for scalable, high-capacity connectivity across key international network corridors.
Cloud services, AI workloads and data centre interconnection are driving rapid traffic growth across global networks, creating pressure for operators. Telxius is leveraging Nokia’s ICE-X 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable technology to add capacity across its existing terrestrial infrastructure with IP-over-DWDM* networking, while reducing the power and space required for network expansion. This simplifies operations to deliver resilient, high-performance connectivity for customers.
The deployment uses Nokia network automation, giving Telxius greater visibility and control across its optical transport network for fault and performance monitoring, and coordinated service provisioning.

IP-over-DWDM is a networking technology that sends internet traffic directly over high-capacity optical fibre. DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) allows multiple data signals to travel over the same fibre at different wavelengths, greatly increasing capacity.
