Contrivian and Big Network to Merge

Contrivian has merged with Big Network to expand its software capabilities at the transport and edge layers. The combined company will enable mission-critical apps and services with immediate failover across fiber, broadband, LTE/5G, and LEO satellite networks.

Subject to regulatory and legal conditions being met

Contrivian, a technology company providing intelligent mission-critical connectivity, and Big Network, a software innovator focused on ultra-reliable networking, have agreed to merge, subject to standard closing procedures, to deliver software-defined performance, orchestration, and transport-layer intelligence across hybrid network environments. The combined platform enables seamless performance across fiber, broadband, LTE/5G, and LEO satellite networks, dynamically adapting before outages or congestion affect application performance.

Contrivian + Big Network = Contrivian

The combined company will operate under the Contrivian name. Big Network’s multi-WAN and edge connectivity technology will be directly integrated into Contrivian’s existing Lighthouse platform.

Lighthouse, Contrivian’s proprietary technology, continuously measures real-world network conditions and selects optimal paths across available circuits to ensure application performance. The addition of Big Network’s ethernet transport-layer capabilities strengthens Contrivian’s ability to orchestrate traffic at the edge, improve failover behavior, and enhance resilience across diverse access types.

Grant Kirkwood, CEO at Contrivian, explains the benefits of the merger, stating:

“The merger deepens our control at the network layer. We are not just combining access types. We are orchestrating multi-modal connectivity with new intelligence. The result is a unified, software-defined architecture that protects application performance across fiber, wireless and LEO satellite. It enables Contrivian to serve the strictest requirements in networking and support mission-critical applications and services. We’re excited to welcome the Big Network team and build the next phase of Contrivian together.”

Software designed to address complex edge deployment challenges

Big Network develops software designed to address complex edge deployment challenges, including resilient multi-WAN networking, static IP continuity over satellite and wireless networks, access to remote IT infrastructure, and transparent Layer 2 services. Tom Daly, President and CEO of Big Network will join the Contrivian board and serve as Principal Technologist. He comments:

“Big Network was built to solve real-world edge challenges at scale. Integrating our platform with Contrivian’s architecture allows us to deliver deeper transport intelligence and more predictable connectivity outcomes across fiber, wireless, and satellite networks. This is massive in the market, and we look forward to innovating together with the Contrivian team.”

The combined platform will enhance Contrivian’s position as a purpose-built, software-defined connectivity leader focused on mission-critical environments. As additional LEO constellations enter commercial availability, the unified architecture strengthens Contrivian’s ability to intelligently integrate and manage multiple satellite networks within a single, software-defined framework.
