Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista Gets an Upgrade

ALE International has released a new version of its OmniVista network management platform, adding an AI assistant and giving IT teams a clearer view of their networks.

Moussa Zaghdoud, CTO & EVP Infrastructure, Platforms and Services, Alcatel-Lucent, said:

“With this update, we are putting AI directly into the hands of network administrators, not to replace their judgment, but to sharpen it. OmniVista Virtual Assistant turns real-time network data into clear, actionable insight and proposes what to do next, while the decision stays with the people who own the network. This year, customers can take advantage of these capabilities with the deployment model of their choice: in the cloud or on premises.”

The AI Virtual Assistant lets network administrators ask questions in everyday language, such as, “how is a particular switch performing?” or “why users at a particular site are experiencing problems?”. It can also help with routine jobs, such as setting up a Wi-Fi network, copying a site configuration or removing old hardware.

Importantly, the AI does not make changes without approval. Administrators can see why the AI is recommending an action and decide whether to accept it. Customer data also remains within the geographic region selected by the organisation, with only the information needed for the AI to work being processed.

OmniVista also works with Network Advisor, which continuously monitors the network to identify and diagnose problems. When an issue is found, the system can suggest a fix and provide its likely root cause, but the IT team remains in control of whether the fix is applied.

The update includes a redesigned interface with simpler navigation and faster onboarding. It also improves Wi-Fi coverage and capacity planning with enhanced client-density heatmaps and adds Chinese, Japanese, German and Spanish language support.

Organisations can use OmniVista in the cloud through OmniVista Cirrus or on-premises through OmniVista Terra. Both versions provide the same core platform and interface, allowing organisations to change how they deploy the system without having to retrain staff.

Other improvements include:

  • One platform: Manage Alcatel-Lucent networking equipment and third-party hardware from one place.
  • Scalability: Support for up to 25,000 devices.
  • Stronger access controls: Better authentication, device verification and role-based access.
  • Unified communications: Network and PBX phone management can be handled through the same platform.
  • API-first design: Easier integration with existing IT systems.
