Lightware adds Support for SNMPv3

Lightware has made it easier for IT teams to monitor its Taurus AV devices by adding support for SNMPv3, one of the most widely used protocols for managing equipment on enterprise networks.

From firmware version 1.20.0, Taurus devices can be monitored alongside servers, switches and other network hardware using existing IT management tools with a single interface, giving administrators greater visibility and helping them identify issues more quickly.

For organisations with large AV deployments across offices, campuses or meeting rooms, the update can reduce management overhead and speed up fault detection.

SNMP

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a widely used protocol for collecting device information and supporting IT system monitoring and management. With SNMP, monitoring tools can track common parameters such as uptime and interface status, and can also support dashboards, reports, and alerts within the monitoring solution’s own user interface. As SNMP can be a baseline IT security requirement in many tenders, support for the latest protocol version can be a practical enabler for enterprise deployments.

IT administrators can now monitor Taurus UCX, Taurus TPX, and Taurus TPN devices for access and system health, as well as network interface status information without needing to use specific API interfaces. Taurus devices can now be monitored using established SNMP manager solutions already deployed in many IT environments, such as SolarWinds, Zabbix, and Nagios. SNMPv3 is widely recommended in enterprise environments due to security features including authentication and encryption.

Beyond standard SNMP elements, Lightware also provides Taurus-specific SNMP elements via MIB parameters including device label, serial number, CPU temperature, motherboard health status, and link status. This expands visibility into device condition and connectivity in a way that fits naturally into familiar IT workflows.

Setup is designed to be straightforward

SNMP must first be enabled and configured on the Lightware device via LDC/WebLDC or REST API. Authentication type and password setup is handled through the REST API. Once configured, the SNMP manager can be set to pull status parameters regularly and support custom dashboards and alerting based on the organisation’s monitoring standards.
